Reg. Martin
Canadian Chauffeurs
Oct.18, 1914
Davenport Barracks,
England
Oct. 18, 1914
Just landed from Franconia and we are now staying at the Davenport barracks. As soon as our cars are ashore we will assemble them and then move on to Salisbury Plains to train. Am well and also enjoying the trip. Hope you got the mail I sent from the boat.
Mrs. D.A.Martin to St. Mary's Journal Argos:
It is possible, and even probable, that one St.Mary's boy has already been on the firing line. Reg. Martin, son of Mrs. D.A. Martin, East Ward, enlisted as a a chauffeur, and it is now reported that the Canadian chauffeurs are on duty in Belgium. One of their number, Wm. Cockhill of Montreal was reported killed in Saturday's despatches: Mrs. Martin received a card from Reg. on Tuesday, written from Davenport Barracks, England, on Oct. 18.
