Stanley George Saunders Walpole
# 453147
Canadian Infantry (Central Ontario Regiment)
58th Bat. CEF
killed in France 12 June 1916
Stanley was the son of Alfred and Jane Saunders Walpole, of 17 Olive Avenue, Toronto. He was born in Stratford on Avon in England on 12 Aug. 1896, coming to St Mary's Ontario just before 1914.
In June 1916 Stanley's unit was in the Ypres Salient near Mount Sorrel, readying for attack. During a barrage from the enemy Stanley was killed. His body was buried in Sanctuary Wood but his grave could not be found after the war.
He is commemorated in MENIN GATE (YPRES) MEMORIAL Cemetery in
Belgium

He was 18 years old.
Past Voices is pleased to present a collection of letters from and about Stanley, to his mother Jane Walpole in Toronto Ontario.
