Dear Ida--
I feel pretty well this morning. I stood my ride first rate. I guess I shall get along now. The calculation is to leave today. The boys are all packing up. The Captain paid me thirty dollars this morning. I will send you twenty and you get that from Turay and John Wallrad and you will have enough to take you through and pay your freight.
After you get there, save the United States money and spend the other money that you get first because Western money is good here, and not east, and the greenbacks are good as the gold anywhere. I will send this by James Harington. I will send back the quilt and satchel. Benny sends his picture to his mother. Here is on the other leaf, an order for you to get my County bounty. You must go to Dewitt some time and present it to the clerk of the Board of Supervisors and if he don’t pay it, you had better leave it with Uncle Sam to see to it for you.
Mr. Ely will take the cows you can arrange with him. He thinks Frank Richardson will buy the oxen. Take good care of your money not to lose it. If you have to make a pocket in your shirt. If you sell the oxen, get money that won’t break down, or let some good responsible man have it. I must write no more this time…

Myron Mullett resided in Dewitt, Iowa. He was 27 years old when he enlisted as a Private on August 14, 1862. On September 13, 1862, he was mustered into Company F, 26th Iowa Infantry. Mullett had a long service career and was finally mustered out at Memphis, Tennessee on May 31, 1865.
